THE CONS
Nepal is the poorest country in South Asia and ranks as the twelfth poorest country in the world. Over 30% of the Nepalese live on less than US$14 per person, per month.
The average age that people live in Nepal is about 54, due to the lack of clean water, food and unavailability of basic health care.
The 2015 earthquake that killed 8,800 people and displaced an estimated one million residents has made the country even more vulnerable. More than half of the population does not have access to crucial elements like agriculture, education, water and sanitation.
OUR WORK
Our partnership is with a local orphanage that is under construction. Working alongside the locals, we are doing any work that is necessary. Painting, adding windows, tiling and anything else needed. When the orphanage is completed it will be home to 40 children ranging in ages 3 1/2 to 13. These children were orphaned after the earthquake in 2015. Currently the children are in foster care with very poor families. Food and resources are limited and everyone goes with a little less to make ends meet.
When we break from our construction duties we will join the feeding program that goes onto the streets of Kathmandu. These children rely on teams like ours for a hot meal every day.
OUR PARTNERSHIPS
Our partnership in Nepal is a not for profit that focuses on those in need. and in Nepal the need it great! This organisation builds schools, orphanages and homes for widows and single women raising families on their own. They are in the process of expanding one of their orphanages and schools and construction continues to be a major area of focus. Another area of focus for this organisation is to engage children in a sports program and give them a sense of belonging.
For women, there is the opportunity to work with the ladies that have been sex trafficked, or provide tents, bedding and warm clothing for those living in the rural areas. This is an organisation that has great needs. Come with an open mind and open heart and don’t expect a job description – you could be working in any or all of the above areas.
