A hearty hello to all of our previous Saving the Hungry travellers!
And a fist-bump welcome to anyone new who may be interested in an upcoming adventure!
We are getting ready to travel with a purpose again.
Unfortunately, Saving the Hungry has been on hold since early 2020 due to the
COVID-19 global pandemic. But despite us being grounded for obvious safety reasons,
our desire to get out there and help has not. In fact, our passion to give back
grows stronger as those in need require our help more than ever.
What we do.
We are a non-profit organization that develops partnerships with people in need around the world, organizes groups to travel from Canada to help with some sort of "build" or "project", and follows up the work side of the adventure with a vacation in the local area. We attract travellers who want to give back but also want to vacation in the destination country. Why go all that way just to rush home after you help out?

The Saving the Hungry team.
Many of you may know that Saving the Hungry was born on the streets of Dar Es Salam in Tanzania in 2011. The Bragge family led the growth of our non-profit over the following years leading travel with a purpose to Nicaragua, South Africa, Guatemala, Honduras, and Thailand. And as it is with all of our lives, the tree grows new branches. Danielle is heavily engaged in new business ventures, Nigel is building up his waste management consultancy, Michaela is married to Andy with a new little one on the way, Joelle is in Thailand, and Jesse and Daniel are hard at schoolwork.
Danielle has stepped back from Saving the Hungry administration just a bit to concentrate on her business ventures, so Nigel (upper left) has taken on more of a leadership role.
Danielle will still be involved of course but is up for more participation rather than "organization"! With that, Wade Wilson (right) has joined our team to assist Nigel with marketing communications, traveller retention/attraction, and donation/sponsorship development. Wade will also be a travel leader, along with Nigel, once we get out there again. And for our women's trips in the future, Danielle will jump back in to help lead.
When do we get out there and help again?
When it is safe from a COVID-19 perspective to do so. When we can get out there again is a moving target based mainly on data and immunization programs. What we do know is that the pandemic will not last forever, people will be immunized, and once again it will be safe from a COVID-19 perspective to travel again. We will be ready and raring to go!
Next stop Honduras.
To gain energy and provide some light at the end of this tunnel, we are planning for our first trip post-pandemic to Honduras. We have been in contact with partners there that desperately need our help. We would combine a playground build with a vacation focussing on the nearby Island of Roatán.
If you don’t know much about Honduras, it is a central American country located in between Nicaragua in the south and Guatemala in the north. Roatán is about 65 kilometers off the east coast of Honduras in the Caribbean Sea.
Our preliminary plans for Honduras are for November 2021 but we realize that when we get to go for sure cannot be finalized at this point. We will keep you updated through these emails.
Let us know if you are interested in a trip!
We are building up our database to communicate regularly with previous Saving the Hungry travellers and new prospective travellers. There is no obligation at all, we just need to start to form a group of interested people for Honduras and/or our other upcoming adventures. Once we see clarity on when exactly we can travel again, we will start to formalize a group to go to Honduras. Contact Nigel or Wade through email or phone. Our contact information is below.
Donations and sponsorships are always accepted.
Our Saving the Hungry team is doing all we can to minimize administrative costs as running any non-profit organization takes time and money. We are also engaging with prospective sponsors to gain in-kind and cash partners to assist with administrative costs and our projects. All donations and sponsorships will go to administration and/or the costs required to fund the project supplies in the destination country. (Construction supplies and costs per project range from as little as $1,000 per project to $15,000.)
